If doctors decide that the pregnancy is life-threatening, you can legally have an abortion in Sri Lanka. If you do not have one, the only option is to go to illegal and unsafe, clandestine clinics. We do not recommend going to such clinics. Such clinics often perform abortions by untrained personnel, and the equipment they use may cause infections in the reproductive system.

The safest way to have an abortion is to terminate the pregnancy using medication.
